New York

Yesterday Shiny and I went to the Met for a day. The ride into the city was once again painless. Boi and I both agree that New YOrk seems smaller than it should. Not in terms of the land it takes up mind you but the buildings, streets and feeling of it just seems smaller than it should.
Once again the Met was wonderful. Watching boi go thru the exhibits snapping pictures was as much fun as i thought it would be. One small black cloud on the day - both our cameras batteries died almost as soon as we got there. The Met does not sell batteries for cameras but they did sell overpriced disposable ones. Well.. all in good cause.
Being a bit of a tactile kinda gal i found mysel touching everything that i could get away with.Things that had been touched by countless hands before me. It was hard not to. Mosaic tiles from a Byzantine bathhouse, sphinx gate pieces from Babylon sarcophagus from the Valley of the Kings. All beautiful. The Met has a few gaps in their collections to be sure but the pieces there are lovely. It saddens me a little to see how much care we used to take to make even the most mudane items pretty. No longer. le sad.
Some of the highlights for me - the Rams head mask from Niger, a horses breastplate with solar design, statue of Sekhmet in the Temple room (we had a small talk ), Boi being all "ooh and Ahh", the lions from the Gate of Ishtar and of course the British clothing exhibit. THey have this exnibit right now of British clothing. Just a handful of designers mind you but the two I love the most. ALso more clothing would have been nice but meh.. that is just me. greedy. A mixture of a few old pices like a tux worn by the late Duke of Windsor ( Tiny tiny guy) to a suit designed by Vivienne Westwood for Johnny Rotten. The Burburry trench dress, the Galliano...everything, that cool McQueen the the metal spine, it was sll good.
Two places to praise - the Cromwell Diner. Actual Fresh Fruit served for breakfast. Great food excellent service. Also the Roadside Diner here in Norwalk. Also great food and service.
Major kudos to the DoubleTree here in Norwalk also. The room is excellent for under 100.00 and we are less than an hour (barely) from the city. The staff here in beyond nice. If you ever need a place to stay this would be a good choice.
All in all an excellent day. Cannot wait to see what today holds.

socks - naked feet again!!
