Arisia wrap up
Jan. 16th, 2006 12:34 pmHome! What a weekend. Had a great time. I want to thank fireheart up front for suggesting I volunteer this weekend. It was one of the best experiances of the whole con.
Friday - left with Craig (FOC) in tow. Smooth ride out there with good conversation. So good in fact I forgot to switch with Mike and ended up driving into the city. Hate driving in Boston. Or any big city. especially if I do not know where I am going and am taking directions. Makes me nervous and ...well ..um... downright bitchy. frays my nerves to shit.
Got in and promptly went to volunteer. Worked Registration for three hours. It was fun. I was able to meet alot of people in a short amount of time. It also set the wheels turning for our con. Dave, the man whose system is used to register all Arisia con goers, is a fantastic guy. Almost every single person connected with Arisia I met this weekend was spectacular.
Next was the Poly 101 panel. Both fireheart and jessheartly were on the panel so I went in support of them. The other two people - Bey and Jonathan were wonderful too. Got to see fireheart's mom and step mom. neat.
Ten o'clock meant PiCon party. w00t!Erin made most of our pies and they were fantastic and deserving of praise. As the panel got over at the same time the party was to start we all rushed upstairs to get it together. (Mental note..next year better checklist for such things. forgot napkins. sigh... napkins.)The party was alot of fun. Eric and i had a great conversation on books i must read. There was alot of coming and going of way cool people( have i mentioned how sexy my baby is with his hair down? he is standing here watching tv as we speak and is sooo amazingly yummy) where was I?
oh ya. fireheart, singingdragon, Micah and I worked the party so hard it didn't get over until 2:30 when we kicked everyone else out to get some rest. Micah and I had to get up at 7ish for more gophering. Once again sorry to the roomies for the snooze alarm thing.
So off Micah went to door guard for the boffing. Boy someone in programming hate boffers. 8 am is not a good time to be swinging swrods even pretend ones. I went to reg for more face to face with incoming con goers. Came away with a little fear about what we have gotten ourselves into but also excited about the challenge. Biggest mostest importantest thing you will need for a con.. people, people dedicated people.
Micah and I did something between 11 and 1 but damned if I know. Then it was off to hte Con Suite for a little food service volunteering. They stuck me in the back cutting cheese which was fine with me. two hours of food prep with the occasional visitor was a very good way to pass the time. Then it was off to check out dealer row, passout picon stickers and chat up potential dealers etc. Micah is very good at this.
Dinner at one of the best Chinese resturants I have ever been to. Had a great time. It ws Jason's birthday and he, in best hobbit fashion, bought supper for us all. Thanks to him. I also got to know Keith and he a little more. They are both very interesting men. I will have to find time to chat with them again.Keith especially has an ease of conversation about him.
Back to the Con and the Pats game we went. tried to catch an hour of good sleep but ended up napping with fireheart which means off and on sleep while getting some satisfying cuddling with a very cuddlesome bunny. One of my favorite parts of the day. Then Jess stopped by with her friend Bridgett. wow...just wow. Bridgett was in head to toe white and shaved head while jess was in head to toe black, hair down and both were corseted up. I mean damn.... it was traffic stopping. So panel number two was at 10. Home Depot in the Bedroom. Interesting. By the time the panel was over I was ready for a little more sleep. Fireheart was on a quest of us, Micah was off to another panel which jess was on and singingdragon was doing cool techie stuff. Room to myself. w00t! When I got back to hte room Magdaline was there sleeping. Okay. Turned on the disaster that was the end of the game and promptly fell asleep. Woke up when Mike came into the room. after some trials and tribulations was able to spend a bit of fun time with him. Need to that more often.Mental note.. more face time with the distracting boy.
Sunday - worked door guard for the art show. Again fun job. Met a really cool artist named Sanguine. Nice guy and dead sexy work. He works in copper and bone. Wonder why a little paleoPagan like me would like that? hmmmm...
Finally got to see the dealer's room if only briefly. Went to the last panel I was able to make. It was on automating cons. Informative in all sorts of ways I am not going into here. Again I am a little scared about what we have taken on. This is the kind of scared I like to be.
Weather reports had 8 to 12 inches of snow coming down back home so Micah and I decided to leave in enough time to drive in snow while still light out. We rounded up everything we needed and prepared to get under way. There was some confusion about ride for people and I apologize if I added to the confusion. In the end it was all sorted out and we were off.
Things that were good .... people, people people. spending time watching people having fun. geekspeak! Seeing and chatting with Pixel, Diedra, Ally..(!),Larry, Jess, Jason, Keith and everyone else.Boys in skirts, girls in corsets, elevator chatting. Being Con MILF.Walls of Pi.
Things for next year..make more panels. sleep less, get own room if only for a place to bring someone you like ;)
things that sucked...making stupid mistakes because of lack of planning on my part, driving in Boston and the Pats losing. Being Con mom.
