sylvari: (Happy)
What science tells us about being happy .....

First- you only have control over fifty percent of your happiness. The rest is genetics and you are stuck with what you have. The good thing about that is you have control over fifty percent of your happiness. Go you!
Of that ten percent is your situation. Where you live, if you are married, your age, how much you make all are factors that you can control to increase or decrease your levels of happiness. While income is a factor, having lots of things around you is not nearly as satisfying as spending that money on things to do. Material wealth is not as happy making as experiential wealth. So take that vacation, go to that show, go to dinner with friends, in the long run you will be better for it.
This leads to the other forty percent which is day to day experiences. The key here is to vary what you do to that makes you happy. If you enjoy long walks in the park just make sure it is not the same route every day. Our brains have this habit of getting used to feelings so keep it fresh. Another key is to make it active not passive activities. Watching television is not going to make you as happy as playing cards with friends. While we are on the subject of friends - do not underestimate the power of hanging out. The number one contributor to happiness is being social. Spend some time with people when you can. The last thing you can do to make yourself happy is to smile. Honest. The phrase is "fake it till you make it" but the truth is if you act happy eventually you will be happy.
In the end it is pretty easy to be happy. Move more, spend time with people, smile and keep things new and fresh.
sylvari: (Solar lj)
So occasionally I tell J (Pinky or Shiny boi to some of you) that he is a very cute boy. His normal response is "bah".
So I am calling on my whole FList - if you have ever met him, seen a picture of him, feel like you know him from my posts let him know what you think of him. You can go to his lj -
[livejournal.com profile] glaucos or post a comment here or send he or I an email

Help me show him just what an amazing guy he really is. Please.

Thanks
